Golden Eagles close season with 11th-place finish at State Championship
ROCKLIN – Led by a second-place showing by Juan Nuno, the Lemoore College wrestling team totaled 55.5 points to finish in 11th place out of 22 teams at the 2025 3C2A State Championships. The two-day event was hosted by Sierra College.
The Golden Eagles had four wrestlers place in the top-8 at the state finals:
Juan Nuno – 2nd, 174
Robbie Rael – 4th, 165
Chris Garza – 8th, 141
Leo Ramirez – 8th, 197
Nuno won his first three matches of the event to advance to the championship final of the 174-pound weight division. Unfortunately, his run came to an end with a with 5-1 loss to Abraham Galicia of Cerritos College in the gold-medal match.
Rael opened the tourney with a pair of victories at the 165-pound weight class before falling 17-6 to Veysel Pekince from Mt. SAC in the championship semifinals. Rael bounced back with a win in the consolation semis but lost 11-2 to Austin Simmons in the third-place match to end in fourth place overall.
With their top-four finishes, Nuno and Rael secured All-American honors.
Garza and Ramirez both dropped their opening matches of the tourney but rallied for consecutive wins in the consolation bracket to earn their way to the seventh-place match. Both suffered losses in that match to finish in eighth place.
The 3C2A State Championships closed out another solid wrestling season for the Golden Eagles and head coach Marcio Botelho.
