Golden Eagles finish seventh at home tournament
LEMOORE – The Lemoore College wrestling team totaled 104 points to finish in seventh place out of 20 teams at its home Golden Eagle Invitational tournament on Saturday. The event, considered an early preview of the 3C2A State Championships, was held at LC's Golden Eagle Arena.
The Golden Eagles placed four individual wrestlers, led by a second-place showing by sophomore Juan Nuno. Nuno reached the championship final in the 184-pound weight class but was edged 6-4 by Lewis Saldivar from Fresno City College.
Freshman Damien Valdez (165), sophomore Joey Clark (174), and freshman Diego Nuno (285) all captured fourth-place finishes at the tourney. Nuno nearly pulled off the victory in the third-place match of the 285-pound division but suffered a narrow 8-7 loss to Malachi Lyles of Cerritos.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 3) when they will head south for a pair of Southeast Wrestling Conference matches. Lemoore is at Moorpark College for an 11 a.m. contest and will travel to East Los Angeles College to take on the Huskies at 6 p.m.
