Golden Eagles surge to ninth straight win, beat Porterville 79-41
PORTERVILLE – The Lemoore College women's basketball team continued its impressive midseason run by downing Porterville College 79-41 on the road in a Central Valley Conference game on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to nine games and moved to 2-0 in conference play while improving to 13-5 overall under new head coach Keyshawn Johnson.
Lemoore opened the contest by outscoring the Pirates 19-6 in the opening quarter and kept that level of intensity up for the entire game. The Golden Eagles led 33-14 at halftime and closed out the win with a 27-point barrage in the fourth quarter.
Savannah Rowland led the Golden Eagles with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and added five assists and five steals in just 22 minutes of action. Lia Sims recorded a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Aaliyah Thompson contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Lemoore also received solid production from its bench. Alisha Verdejo scored 11 points with three shots from beyond the arc, Gracelynn Rowland added nine points, and Makayla Figuereo finished with six points and four rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday (Jan. 14) when they host College of the Sequoias in a 7 p.m. CVC game.
